Hostel Description:
The Pelikaan Hotel and Casino is a one of the few "budget" (by Curacao standards) options available for those who wish to visit the island of Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles. The Pelikaan Hotel and Casino is a midrange hotel with basic rooms that include A/C located in downtown Willemstad.

The Pelikaan Hotel and Casino had an alright staff. The first time I called the lady who answered the phone was very short with me and as soon as she answered my question she said "bye" and hung up. When I was checking in they were all business and will definitely not be winning any awards for courtesy, however they also weren't rude. I had some questions one day and the guy at the front desk answered them all and gave me some good information.

Pelikaan Hotel and Casino is located in downtown Willemstad which is the one city on the island of Curacao. Willemstad is actually separated by a waterway into two parts named the Otrobanda and Punda. Pelikaan Hotel and Casino is on the Otrobanda side about a five minute walk from the more trendy Punda area. The location is central near many shops, Chinese eateries, western restaurants and the Punda side which has some nicer restaurants and shops.

How Clean is it?:

Pelikaan Hotel and Casino wasn't the cleanest place I have stayed at. At night I would typically see a couple cockroaches in the room and my room wasn't cleaned once while I was staying there. I'm sure they would clean it if I asked but who wants to go bother reception each day about cleaning a room. However the room itself wasn't rundown or filthy and minus the occasional insect visitor, was clean.

Any Character?:
70%
Pelikaan Hotel and Casino doesn't have much in the way of character. The rooms are very bare and the hotel itself doesn't really have any decoration except in the casino.

How Fun was it?:
65%
Pelikaan Hotel and Casino isn't a fun place because there isn't any real way to meet fellow guests. There is a tiny casino on the first floor but it only has slot machines and isn't a good place for meeting people. You'd be better off visiting other casinos in the area.

Reception desk, doubles, A/C in room, TV in room, casino with slot machines located on first floor, parking, drinks and snacks for sale in reception, towels provided in room and free soap in private bathroom.

Value for your Money:

The Pelikaan Hotel and Casino was a decent value considering how expensive the island of Curacao is. You get a decent room with A/C that has the bare basics like a TV and private bathroom.

The
Extra Good
:
The best part about the Pelikaan Hotel and Casino was the price. You would be hard pressed to find somewhere cheaper with as nice of room in this area (but I am sure you could if you looked hard enough once you were here).
The
Extra Bad
:
The Pelikaan Hotel and Casino wasn't a fun place to stay at. The area offers a lot to keep you busy but the Pelikaan Hotel itself doesn't offer much of anything except a tiny, smoke filled casino with a bunch of slot machines.

Final Thoughts:
Staying at the island of Curacao isn't cheap. Being a Caribbean destination, many people visit here on expensive cruises and the like and therefore are willing to spend a good amount of money. Searching around, the Pelikaan Hotel and Casino is a good place to stay if you want to be in central Willemstad, have a clean, basic room with A/C and not pay a ton of money for it.

Would I Stay There Again?:
If I was on a budget, yes, otherwise, I would search out a nicer place to stay at on one of the beaches.
