Pagalu Hostel is run by two brothers who are both very friendly and helpful. They do a good job of making sure that the hostel guests are taken care of. The only problem is that since it is only the two of them sometimes they can be a bit short staffed.

Location: 85%

Pagalu Hostel is located two blocks from the beach in the touristy area of Puerto Viejo. It is near stores and markets. Relatively speaking, there are accommodations that are closer, however the location of Pagalu is pretty decent.

How Clean is it?: 80%

Pagalu Hostel was cleaned every day and was for the most part pretty clean. The rooms weren't cleaned very often though and many times people would track in sand which would be on the floor until someone decided to clean it up. The furniture was all pretty new and the building was well kept.

Any Character?: 85%

Pagalu Hostel has a decent amount of character with well laid out common rooms, multiple hammocks and wooden furniture.

How Fun was it?: 85%

Pagalu Hostel was a pretty fun place because the common room there was perfect for meeting other people. It was large, breezy and devoid of walls. Plus the owners didn't care if you brought your own alcohol into the hostel.

Dorms, singles, doubles, triples, common room, kitchen, hot water, free internet, free Wi-Fi, free lockers, free towel hire, fan in room, car parking, hammocks, water for sale and free soap/shampoo.

Pagalu Hostel had a decent value. The price was good, especially since the hostel itself was very nice and they offered some decent amenities.

They did not have a bar but they did sell beer and water.

They had one computer with free internet along with very fast free Wi-Fi.

The Extra Good:

Pagalu Hostel was a really nice place to stay at. It had a very comfortable atmosphere, the rooms were nice, the design with multiple power outlets and large lockers was very well thought out and the building wasn't run down.

The Extra Bad:

Pagalu Hostel was only run by two brothers which meant there wasn't someone always at the front desk. This could be a problem with security possibly at night (although nothing ever happened when I was there) or during the day (my shoes were stolen from right in front of the hostel).

Final Thoughts:

I thought Pagalu Hostel was a very nice place. The building was modern, the common room was perfect for meeting other people and the brothers who ran the place were super friendly. They also did a great job of making sure to think about all the little things like oversized lockers, numerous power outlets and well laid out common rooms.
