Hostel Description:
Jaguar Inn is the "budget" option of the three hotels that are located inside of Tikal National Park in Guatemala.

I have mixed feelings about the staff. They were helpful, however some seemed to have bad attitudes. I'm not sure if it is because they deal with a lot of difficult tourists or what, but it showed, especially with the guys that ran the reception whom were all business and zero friendliness.

The location is great for those that want to visit Tikal National Park. You can forget about doing a "sunrise" or "sunset" walk because most mornings at sunrise they don't do tours anymore (or it's raining) and sunset isn't that great in Tikal especially since you have to walk back in the dark thru the jungle. Staying inside the national park though is cool because of all the animals you hear at night and in the morning.

How Clean is it?:

Jaguar Inn was a pretty clean place. My room was well done up and the common areas were clean.

Any Character?:
85%
Jaguar Inn has a good amount of character with a lot of it coming from the location itself. You are right in the middle of a jungle so that really adds to the atmosphere. The hotel itself has a very unique flavor of character to it with the design and the paved walkways that lead thru the hotel grounds. The rooms have bright colors but are a bit Spartan.

How Fun was it?:

The Jaguar Inn isn't a very fun place. The electricity shuts off each day for a large portion of time during which you can't do much of anything. There is a common room but nobody seems to use it except during eating hours. They have internet but it is paid.

Camping, singles, doubles, twins, restaurant, paid internet, tour desk, parking, fan in room, free towel hire, free bottled water and a bar.

Value for your Money:
80%
The value for Jaguar Inn was alright considering that you are in Tikal National Park therefore your options are limited. They did offer camping however and singles that were both at relatively good prices.

Bar:
They had a large bar stocked with overpriced drinks.

Internet:
They had a couple computers with paid internet along with a paid Wi-Fi service, however that all goes away when they shut the electricity for the hotel down.

Food:
They had a good buffet breakfast for an alright price. Also, they had lunch and dinner available in their restaurant that was pretty expensive.

The
Extra Good
:
The best part of Jaguar Inn is the location. You are right smack dab in the middle of a Jungle minutes away from some of the best Mayan ruins in the world.

The
Extra Bad
:
The fact that they shut the electricity down for about half the day each day is a real pain in the ass.

Final Thoughts:
The Jaguar Inn was an alright place. Considering how expensive it is you would think that the staff would have better attitudes plus the fact that the electricity shuts off for at least half the day is also a downer. Besides that, the location is cool and the prices for the rooms are relatively fair. Plus they have cheap camping available. If you really want to stay on the grounds of Tikal, this is the budget option for doing so. However if the location isn't that important you're better off staying in Flores and catching a morning bus to Tikal.

Would I Stay There Again?:
No, next time I would stay in Flores and take a tour from there into Tikal.
