Lungile Backpackers Review and Information

Port Elizabeth, South Africa

Hostel Description:

Many people use Lungile Backpackers as a rest stop since Port Elizabeth is a mandatory stop on the Baz Bus route. That being the case, the place doesn't have a bunch of character or fun things to do, however it is clean and has all the basic facilities you would expect from a hostel.

Staff: 90%

The staff at Lungile Backpackers was very friendly and very helpful. One of the guys even invited me to come out with him and his friends for a night out on the town for a birthday after I spoke with him for about five minutes.

Location: 75%

Lungile Backpackers didn't have a great location, but it wasn't horrible either. You're about a five to ten minute walk from any stores, and about a thirty minute walk from a proper supermarket. You're also about a ten to fifteen minute walk from a good deal of bars/pubs as well as the beach.

How Clean is it?: 95%

The hostel was spic and span.

Any Character?: 75%

Lungile Backpackers looked like a Swiss Mountain Lodge. It has a bit of character in that regards, but not much.

How Fun was it?: 75%

They had a swimming pool as well as a pool table, but other than that, not many things were "fun" about this place.

Facilities: 83%

There is a bar (a small one that is rarely used), a TV room, pool table, swimming pool, camping area, internet (not free), nice kitchen, common area, dorms and doubles.

Value for your Money: 75%

They had a swimming pool as well as a pool table, but other than that, not many things were "fun" about this place.

Bar:

The bar at Lungile Backpackers was pretty sparse and when I was there, almost nobody used it.

Internet:

They had one computer with a fast connection, but it is not free.

Food:

They didn't sell any food, but they did have a large kitchen to use.

The Extra Good:

Lungile was always very clean. It was actually one of the cleanest hostels that I have yet been too.

The Extra Bad:

It would be nice to have a few more activities and events to choose from that were organized by the hostel. I think one of the main reasons that they don't do anything though is because most people only stay one night because of the fact the Port Elizabeth is a mandatory stop on the Baz Bus route.

Final Thoughts:

I spent a couple nights at Lungile Backpackers because they had a good deal on a double room and I wanted to have some privacy after spending so much time in Dorms the past couple of weeks. It is a good place to go to if you need to get some work done while you travel, but I wouldn't expect to have a great time there.

Would I Stay There Again?:

Possibly. If I needed to get some work done, for sure, but if I was looking to have a good time I would probably try another hostel out in Port Elizabeth to see if there wasn't a better option.
