Mar Mar Hostel Review and Information

Cinque Terre, Italy

Hostel Description:

Mar Mar Hostel is a nice place in the beautiful seaside city of Cinque Terre, more specifically, the town of Riomaggio. Mar Mar Hostel has a range of option to choose from with various buildings throughout the Riomaggio area including singles, doubles and dorms. The hostel is more suited to the independent traveler or group because it isn't the best place to meet people, however there is no front desk to deal with when you come and go, therefore you have total independence during your stay at the hostel.

Staff: 75%

Since Mar Mar Hostel give complete control to the travelers who stay in any one of the buildings, I didn't talk to any staff members except when I checked in. The lady who did check me in however was nice and spoke perfect English.

Location: 85%

Riomaggio, as well as the rest of the towns in Cinque Terre are so small, that pretty much no matter where you are at, you are in a decent location. However, relatively speaking, the location was pretty good, being somewhat close to the rail line entrance meaning that you won't have to walk up a huge hill to get to the location.

How Clean is it?: 85%

The hostel common rooms and dorms were cleaned every day. It is always nice to come home from a day of sightseeing to a made bed.

Any Character?: 75%

The hostel had a bit of character, mainly in the make of the building. However, other than that, it didn't have much in the way of character.

How Fun was it?: 70%

Mar Mar Hostel didn't offer much to keep you entertained, so I wouldn't say it was a very "fun" place to go, however, since they give you complete independence, if you are with a good group of people you could make your own fun.

They had doubles, singles, dorms, hot water, full size kitchen and an outdoor balcony with a great view.

Mar Mar Hostel didn't offer much to keep you entertained, so I wouldn't say it was a very "fun" place to go, however, since they give you complete independence, if you are with a good group of people you could make your own fun.

The Extra Good:

I really liked the complete autonomy they gave you at the hostel. Being able to come and go as you please without having to deal with any staff was nice and made it feel like you rented your own house in Cinque Terre along with four other travelers.

The only complaint would be the lack of internet.

Final Thoughts:

Mar Mar Hostel is a good choice for those planning a visit to Cinque Terre. It is nice, clean and has all the basic amenities one could expect from a hostel. Also, being able to have complete freedom by having a separate house away from any staff makes the stay there that much more enjoyable.
