Staff: 97%

The Derry City Independent Hostel had some of the best most friendly and helpful staff I've come across in all my travels. They really knew the area, made you feel right at home and were happy to come out and have a drink with you.

Location: 93%

The Derry City Independent Hostel had a very good location being about a 5 minute walk from the main bus station and city center. There are plenty of pubs and stores in the immediate area as well as many of the city's tourist attractions.

How Clean is it?: 82%

The Derry City Independent Hostel was a relatively clean place however some of the furniture was pretty old and rundown.

Any Character?: 98%

The Derry City Independent Hostel was full of character. The couple that runs the hostel also does a ton of traveling and has purchased things from all over the world to decorate the hostel with. Every room tends to have a good deal of interesting decorations really adding to the overall ambiance of the place.

How Fun was it?: 93%

The Derry City Independent Hostel was a really fun place with a great common room with tons of DVDs to watch, friendly staff, free Wi-Fi, awesome location and an atmosphere really conducive to meeting fellow travelers.

Doubles, twins, dorms, free Wi-Fi, free internet terminal, international payphone, common room with cable TV and DVD player with tons of DVDs, backyard, BBQ, free breakfast, tour desk, luggage storage, money exchange, free maps, secure entry, book exchange, free tea/coffee and free towel hire.

The Derry City Independent Hostel was a great value especially if you were to stay for 5 nights since you get your 5th night for free!

The Extra Good:

The amount of character in the Derry City Independent Hostel was impressive. The owners have done a great job of doing the place up with interesting decorations from exotic locations all over the world.

The Extra Bad:

There was only one power outlet in my room which can be a bother if more than one person wants to charge something.

Final Thoughts:

The Derry City Independent Hostel was one of the best hostels I have stayed at on my travels which made my overall experience in Derry/Londonderry a positive one. The staff was superb, I felt right at home and the beds were comfortable. The Derry City Independent Hostel is a prime example of a true "hostel".
