Stockholm, Sweden City Travel Information

Stockholm is a diverse, clean and safe city to visit whlie in Europe.
City Description:
Stockholm, the capital of Sweden is a city made up of 14 different islands all interconnected by a multitude of bridges. The contrast between the modern architecture, traditional buildings along with a large percentages of the city covered in grass and water makes Stockholm a nice city to admire. The nightlife in Stockholm is varied and the city is as cosmopolitan as any Western European capital with a high degree of cultural diversity and plenty of restaurants, shops and choices in accommodation.

City Highlights:
The city of Stockholm has a great amount of nice green areas to walk around with plenty of parks and open spaces to spend a nice afternoon at (when the weather is good).

City Lowlights:
Stockholm is a bit thin on interesting historical sites to visit. I'm sure someone extremely versed in Scandinavian history will find plenty to see but for the typical tourist there isn't much.

Restaurants:
Stockholm has plenty of restaurants in all varieties thanks to the high amount of immigration to the city. You can find it all in varying degrees of quality. There are also tons of all-you-can-eat buffets in the city for whatever reason. During lunch time you can find the best deals at restaurants. For fast food you can find the usual slew of "kebab" shops as in most European capitals as well as a many fast-food chains. Those are your best bet if you want to save money.

Nightlife:
The nightlife in Stockholm is varied with a decent amount of clubs, cafes and restaurants to drink at. It seems that clubs are a bit more popular than pubs in Stockholm so you can find lots of places to go and dance at. At some of the better places you can expect to pay a decent cover charge as well as high prices for drinks. If you want to save some cash you can always go to a nearby 7-Eleven convenience store and do your drinking there.

Public Transport:
Stockholm has an interconnected bus system as well as an underground metro. There are also plenty of taxis in the city to take. Getting to and from the airport can be done via bus or "Arlanda Express" train with the bus being half the price of the train.

The People:
Stockholm has a wide variety of cultures in the city so chances are that you'll see as many immigrants as you do Swedish in the city central area. Most Swedish speak a great deal of English and are polite with many of them having a "quirky" sense of humor. People in Sweden seem to be somewhat direct so you should always have a good idea of what is on their minds.

Sights:
In terms of sites you can visit the "Gamla Stan" or Old Town of Stockholm. It is a nice area but pretty much geared towards tourists. Watch out for con-men doing various gambling games on the street. The area is full of them. Visiting the archipelago is a great way to spend the day and see a lot of Stockholm's nature. The Royal Palace is a nice building to checkout near the Old Town of Stockholm. Of course no European city would be complete without some nice old churches to check out so there are plenty of those to visit while you are in Stockholm. There are also plenty of museums to visit if that is your thing. A nice park to visit is the island of Djurgarden where you can also find an amusement park/museum named Skansen.

My Thoughts on this City:
I think Stockholm is a place that you can spend a couple days at as a tourist. The city is nice, clean and safe making a stay there pleasant. After a couple days of wandering the city most people will have gotten their fill of Stockholm. The nightlife is decent but expensive.
