Nice, France City Travel Information

The beautiful beachside city of Nice, France.
The beautiful beachside city of Nice, France.

City Description:

Nice is a beautiful city in the South of France from which you can do many things such as strolling the alley ways of the old part of town haggling with vendors over clothes and items or getting a drink and a bit to eat spending the day relaxing on one of the many beautiful and liberal beaches.

City Highlights:

A nice day relaxing on the beach of Nice with the warm Mediterranean wind washing over you is not to be missed.

City Lowlights:

Some of the French people can be very rude, especially some of the workers at the rail station (information desk near the entrance) who wouldn't give you the time of day if you didn't speak French. I thought this was pretty strange considering Nice is a major Western European city. It's not like I was at a restaurant, this was the information desk at a major rail station for goodness sakes.

Restaurants:

If you walk into the old part of town, you'll find a great deal of various restaurants to choose from. Also, right before you get to the boardwalk that runs along the beach, there is another boardwalk that is full of café's and eateries.

Nightlife:

Nice had a decent selection of pubs, clubs and restaurants to choose from, so no matter what your desire, you'll be able to find something suitable in Nice.

Public Transport:

Nice has a pretty smooth and well run tram system (complete with cheesy station announcements that sound like something out of a cologne commercial). You should be able to get around fairly easily on the tram, and if not you can always hire a taxi.

The People:

I met some nice people, but I've also met the highest concentration of rude people in Europe so far on my travels here in Nice. I hear it is the French being French.

Sights:

The beach, the old part of town near the beach, the old town square and the Lou Casteu which offers great views of the entire city.

My Thoughts on this City:

I had an enjoyable time in Nice. For the most part, the people were friendly, the weather was great and the general vibe of the city like most beach side locals was very easy going and laid back. It is also a great place to use as a jumping off point to many other towns in the South of France.
